    The budget Excution Report for the financial year 2024-2025

    During the first quarter (January – March 2025), the real GDP grew by 5.4 percent compared with 5.2 percent recorded in the corresponding quarter in 2024. In 2024, real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounted to 156,635.32 billion shillings compared with 148,521.02 billion shillings recorded in 2023, equivalent to a growth of 5.5 percent compared with 5.1 percent growth recorded in 2023. During the quarter ending June 2025, headline inflation slightly increased to 3.2 percent from 3.1 percent recorded during the corresponding quarter in 2024. On annual basis, headline inflation averaged at 3.1 percent in 2024/25, similarly to the rate recorded in 2023/24.

    uring the second quarter (April – June, 2025) Gross Domestic Product (QGDP) 2025 at current prices in absolute terms increased to TZS 59.6 trillion, from TZS 50.9 trillion recorded in the similar quarter in 2024. Meanwhile, GDP at constant 2015 prices increased to TZS 40.7 trillion, from TZS 38.3 trillion registered in the corresponding period in 2024, equivalent to 6.3 percent growth compared to a growth rate of 5.1 percent observed in the corresponding quarter in 2024.

    During the third quarter (July – September 2024), nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased to 48.8 trillion from 44.6 trillion recorded in the similar quarter in 2023. Further, the real GDP (at 2015 prices) increased to 37.5 trillion from 35.4 trillion achieved in the corresponding period in 2023. As a result, real GDP growth in the third quarter was 5.9 percent compared with 5.6 percent recorded in the corresponding quarter in 2023.

    During the second quarter (April – June, 2024) Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices in absolute terms increased to 52,000 billion shillings from 47,400 billion shillings recorded in the similar quarter in 2023. Further, the second quarter real GDP 2024 (at constant 2015 prices) increased to 38,400 billion shillings from 36,400 billion shillings achieved in the corresponding period in 2023, equivalent to a growth rate of 5.3 percent compared to the 4.7 percent growth recorded in the similar period in 2023.

    In 2022, the economy grew by 4.7 percent compared to 4.9 percent in 2021 based on the new series of 2015 base year. In 2022/23, headline inflation continued to maintain single digit averaged at 4.6 percent compared to 4.0 percent in 2021/22. The increase in inflation was attributed to the rise of global energy and food prices.

Further, the real QGDP (at 2015 prices) increased to TZS 35.7 trillion from TZS 33.9 trillion achieved in the corresponding period in 2022.

    Budget Execution Report for the Third Quarter of 2024-2025 (January – March 2025)

    During the fourth quarter of 2024, the value of Quarterly Gross Domestic Product (QGDP) in absolute term at current prices increased to 56.5 trillion shillings from 50.6 trillion shillings in the similar quarter in 2023. Further, the value of QGDP in 2015 constant prices also increased to 41.9 trillion shillings in the fourth quarter 2024 from 39.9 trillion shillings in the similar period in 2023, equivalent to a growth of 5.2 percent. During the third quarter (July – September, 2024), nominal Quarterly Gross Domestic Product (QGDP) in an absolute term (at current prices) increased to TZS 48.8 trillion from TZS trillion 44.6 recorded in the similar quarter in 2023.

    During the first quarter (January – March) of 2024, the real GDP (constant 2015 prices) rose to 38.7 trillion shillings from 36.7 trillion shillings recorded in the similar period in 2023, equivalent to the growth rate of 5.6 percent. In 2023/24, headline inflation averaged at 3.2 percent, lower than the 4.6 percent recorded in 2022/23. This was mainly attributed to the implementation of prudent monetary policy and adequate food supply. During the quarter ending June 2024, headline inflation maintained an average of 3.1 percent compared to 3.9 percent recorded during the corresponding quarter in 2023.

    During the fourth quarter (October – December) of 2023, the economy registered a real GDP growth of 4.6 percent compared to 3.6 percent in a corresponding quarter of 2022. During the same period, headline inflation remained steady at 3.0 percent compared to 4.8 percent recorded in the similar period in 2022/23. This stability is attributed to an ample domestic food supply and reduced inflation from imports, driven by moderation in global market prices

    The Budget Execution Report for the Second Quarter of the Financial Year, 2020-2021

    The average growth of real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first three quarters of 2020 averaged at 4.7 percent from 7.3 percent recorded in the similar period in 2019. The slowdown in growth was on account of excessive rainfall which led to destruction of transportation infrastructure, delay in implementation of major projects and impact of COVID – 19 in some of economic activities including trade, hotel and restaurants. In the second quarter of 2020/21, headline inflation decreased to an average to an average of 3.1 percent from 3.7 percent recorded in 2019/20.

    The Budget Execution Report for the Financial Year, 2020-21,(July, 2020 to June,2021)

    In the first quarter (January – March) of 2021, the economy registered a real GDP growth of 4.9 percent compared to 5.9 percent in a corresponding quarter of 2020. The slowdown in growth was due to spill-over effects of the measures taken by major trading partners to contain the spread of COVID-19. In 2020/21, headline inflation remained within the country’s medium-term benchmark of between 3 and 5 percent, decreasing to an average of 3.3 percent from 3.5 percent recorded in 2019/20.

    Budget Execution Report for the Third Quarter of 2018-2019 January-March-2019

    In 2018, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of Tanzania conducted an exercise to rebase GDP by updating the national accounts base year from 2007 to 2015. The revision was aimed at ensuring international comparability in accordance with the United Nations System of National Accounts 1993. Following the revision, the nominal GDP value for the base year 2015 has been revised upward by 3.8 percent compared with the previous base year (2007).

    Real GDP growth in the first quarter of 2019, (January to March) was 6.6 percent compared to 7.5 percent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2018. The growth was mainly supported by good performance observed in economic activities of construction; transport and storage; mining and quarrying; electricity; and information and communication.

    GDP in the first half (January to June) of 2019 grew by 6.9 percent compared to a growth rate of 6.8 percent recorded in the corresponding period in 2018. Sectors which recorded impressive performance included construction, communication, transport and mining. The growth was mainly attributed to public investment in infrastructure development; stability in power supply; improved transport services; and favorable weather condition for agriculture sector.
